Recent national headlines have highlighted the increase in knife crime within London, in particular the deaths of 3 young people within the space of 24 hours. There are many reasons and theories about why, but I want to highlight one in particular…
There’s a lack of appreciation felt amongst some of our young people, an ache that we can miss if we’re not intentional about the value and care shown to them. That ache, that desire for a feeling of importance can cause one person to achieve something exceptional, but also lure another into joining the wrong company exposed to engaging in criminal activity… sometimes just to get that feeling.
Let’s drive forward a new conversation for new strategies in tackling this. If we get behind and sign this online petition to get 100,000 signatures, the UK Government will consider a new debate within Parliament. This benefits all our communities.
Let’s also take one step in another direction… take a moment to encourage and appreciate something good about a young person who crosses your path today. You may never know the impact that gesture of kindness will have.
